What is Kappa Capricorni
Kappa Capricorni is a yellow giant in the tail of the Sea Goat, that hybrid figure — half goat, half fish — that Mesopotamian civilisations already recognised in the sky more than four thousand years ago. Its warm hue betrays a star that has begun to fuse helium in its interior, swelling with the calm of mature age. Its light takes nearly three centuries to cross the void that separates us.
Where it is and when to see it
Kappa Capricorni lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
