36 Capricorni glows within the old outline of the celestial sea-goat, a K-type orange giant whose surface has cooled well below the Sun's. Its light spent roughly 171 years on the way — the same span that separates the dawn of photography from the first human steps on the Moon. At magnitude 4.5 it is quiet, surrendering itself only when the night escapes the reach of cities.
