What is Theta 2 Microscopium
θ² Microscopii is a white star, optical sibling of θ¹ in the same 18th-century Lacaille constellation. It shines with the clean light of its A type in a southern corner of the sky populated by imaginary scientific instruments: the microscope, the telescope, the reticle, the compass. A small flame honouring the Enlightenment cabinet etched into the firmament.
Where it is and when to see it
Theta 2 Microscopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
