What is Delta Microscopium
δ Microscopii shines within the Microscope, a small, modest southern constellation drawn by Lacaille in the 18th century as a tribute to the instrument that opened a world invisible to the eye. An orange K-type giant some 302 light-years away, she offers her warm light in a region of the firmament with few prominent landmarks.
Where it is and when to see it
Delta Microscopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
