What is Epsilon Microscopium
Epsilon Microscopii is the second brightest star of its small constellation —a white A1 main-sequence star with twice the Sun's mass, twice its radius, and nearly 36 times its luminosity. Its surface reaches 9,126 K and its equator spins at 127 km per second. At 182 light-years, it is one of the few firm anchors in the muted outline of the Microscope.
Where it is and when to see it
Epsilon Microscopium lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
