What is 18 Aquarii
18 Aquarii is a yellow-white F-type star roughly 154 light-years away, comparatively close, set within the Water-Bearer who pours his stream toward the southern autumn sky. Its light slipped away in the middle of the nineteenth century, in the very years when the first spectral types were being discovered and stars finally yielded their chemistry to careful reading of their light. A faithful messenger, almost punctual on the cosmic scale.
Where it is and when to see it
18 Aquarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
