What is Eta Arietis
A yellow-white F-type star at just 94 light-years away — one of the closest in Aries — with a nuclear metabolism only slightly more energetic than the Sun's and roughly six solar luminosities to its name. It is around 2.6 billion years old, two thirds of the Sun's age, with a radius twice ours. It sits in the zodiacal Ram whose spring equinox once fixed the origin of ecliptic coordinates, a reference point millennia ago that Earth's slow precession has long since shifted.
Where it is and when to see it
Eta Arietis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
