What is HIP 98767
Within the long neck of Cygnus, 51.7 light-years away, shines a yellow G-type star almost twin to the Sun. Its light set out around 1974, when the Helios probe was being launched to approach our star more closely than anything before. It shares colour and temperature with our Sun, and astronomers have found planets in its surroundings, reminding us how many systems already inhabit our neighbourhood.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 98767 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
