Hot blue starIts story
22 Cygni burns with the blue fury of massive B-type stars, some 1,443 light-years along the luminous current of the Swan. Its surface, tens of thousands of degrees hotter than the Sun's, radiates mostly in the ultraviolet. The light now crossing our retina set out around the sixth century, when Hagia Sophia was rising in Constantinople; it takes more than fourteen centuries to deliver its blue-white tone.
