In southern Sagittarius burns a blue B-type star whose light has traveled 711 years: it set out when the European guilds were imposing their statutes upon medieval cities and the long autumn of feudalism was beginning. Hot, young and massive, it shines with that piercing blue which marks the most energetic stars of the sky.

HIP 97260 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
