Variable starIts story
In Cygnus, the swan crossing the northern Milky Way, a yellow-white variable F-type star shines at about 133 light-years. Its light set out around 1892, while the Lumière brothers were experimenting with the first motion-picture cameras and moving images were beginning to tell the world. Hotter than the Sun, its brightness oscillates gently over time, like a discreet heartbeat in the heart of a river of stars.
