Highly luminous starIts story
42 Cygni is a luminous white A-type star about 2,589 light-years away, one of the most distant in this batch. It lies submerged in the rich region of Cygnus, where the Milky Way swells with dust, gas and stars. What we see tonight is light emitted just over two and a half millennia ago, when classical Greek philosophy was still flowering around the Mediterranean and nothing had yet been written about the Roman Empire.
