It glitters white-blue in Sagittarius, the constellation pointing toward the very heart of the Milky Way, about 699 light years away. Its light set out around 1326, when Italian humanists were starting to rediscover the classical world and the kingdom of Granada still ruled the south of the peninsula. B-type, young and very hot, its atmosphere vibrates at temperatures more than twice those of the Sun. An electric flame among the swarms of stars of the galactic center.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 95557 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
