Only 48.5 light-years lie between us: tonight's light departed around 1977, when the Voyager probes were lifting off toward the outer planets. It shines in Lyra, the celestial lyre, with an almost solar yellow —a near sister to the Sun in colour and temperature, mapped by the Hipparcos satellite as a reference astrometric object.

HIP 93017 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.
