What is Mu Lyrae
Mu Lyrae accompanies the Lyre, the small constellation dominated by dazzling Vega. It is a white A-type star at 439 light-years —discreet beside its famous neighbour, yet part of the same figure the ancient Greeks tied to the instrument of Orpheus. Its light reaches the boreal summer firmament without stridency, almost like a sustained chord in the background.

Mu Lyrae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
