Lam
Highly luminous starIts story
Lambda Lyrae is an orange K-type giant burning about 1,106 light-years away on the string of Orpheus's Lyre, not far from the dazzling Vega. It is a truly luminous star: at such a distance, an enormous output is needed to remain visible to the unaided eye. Its coppery light has travelled since the time when Europe was raising its first Romanesque cathedrals, reaching us filtered through the faint mist of galactic dust that pervades the plane of the Milky Way.
