Ainalrami is a luminous orange giant in Sagittarius, its name drawn from the Arabic «ʿayn al-rāmī», «the eye of the archer». At 1,125 light-years, its coppery light travels a long millennium before reaching us, departing from a region of the sky that points directly toward the radiant heart of the Milky Way. It belongs, then, to that golden backdrop where thousands of stars and clouds of galactic dust crowd together.
Where it is and when to see it
Ainalrami lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
