δ¹ Lyrae belongs to the Stephenson 1 open cluster, a young group of stars bound by common origin that lies near the parallelogram of the Lyre. A hot blue B-type star some 992 light-years away, she shares her sky with Vega, one of the brightest stars of the northern firmament and a vertex of the celebrated Summer Triangle.
Where it is and when to see it
Delta 1 Lyrae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
