What is HIP 89772

Among the sands of Ophiuchus shines a K-type orange star 153 light-years from Earth. The light crossing our eyes tonight set out around 1873, the year Maxwell published his treatise on electricity and magnetism, opening the door to the age of waves. Cooler and somewhat larger than the Sun, it is a calm ember beneath the figure of the Serpent-Bearer.

HIP 89772 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
