What is HIP 84631
It shines in Hercules, the immortal hero of the twelve labours, one of the oldest constellations in the northern sky. A white A-type star, hotter and brighter than the Sun, its light took some 456 years to cross space: it set out around 1570, when Tycho Brahe was observing the famous supernova SN 1572 and proving that the heavens were not immutable. A white glimmer among the celestial muscles of the Greek hero.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 84631 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
