What is HIP 83367
In Hercules shines a yellow type-G star 313 light-years away, a chromatic sister of the Sun. Its light departed in the late seventeenth century, when Huygens was designing the pendulum clock and time learned to be measured with almost musical precision. It shares our star's warm gold of G stars, yet shines far beyond —a solar echo that has crossed three full centuries to reach the Earth.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 83367 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
