Variable starIts story
10 Herculis lives 682 light-years away, on the outer edges of the figure of the kneeling Hero. It is an M-type red giant whose light pulses with the slow variability typical of aged stars that have already left the main sequence behind. Its cool, dilated surface emits mostly in the infrared, beyond the reach of the eye —the eye catches only the faint embers of a far broader stellar fire.
