What is 59 Herculis
59 Herculis is set into the hero's body, a white A-type star 322 light-years away. Its surface is hotter and more luminous than the Sun's, its glow more metallic — that nearly silvered tone which sets A-type stars apart on a dark night. The light reaching us tonight departed before the modern periodical press even existed.
Where it is and when to see it
59 Herculis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
