What is HIP 81754
In Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer, shines a yellow-white star of type F, slightly livelier than the Sun. Its light has been travelling for only 137 years: it left in 1888, as Heinrich Hertz proved in his laboratory the existence of radio waves. A small, almost familiar flame, lost among the coils of a mythological serpent-handler.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 81754 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
