Variable starIts story
In the curved sting of Scorpius beats a blue B-type sun, a variable flame whose brightness breathes in subtle cycles. Its light travelled 627 years to us: when it set out, Filippo Brunelleschi was designing the dome of Florence Cathedral and the Renaissance was opening its eyes. Far more massive and hotter than our Sun, its bluish pulse recalls the flash of a distant siren on a deep Mediterranean night.
