18 Scorpii is one of the closest known solar twins: a G2 star whose mass, radius and temperature almost match the Sun's, only forty-five light-years away on the northern edge of Scorpius. Its magnetic activity cycle runs about seven years against the Sun's eleven, turning it into a natural laboratory for understanding the beating heart of our own star seen from outside.
