Star profile
HIP 82676
Hot blue starWhat is HIP 82676
Deep in the seething heart of Scorpius burns a searing blue star some 2589 light-years away. Its light set out around 562 BCE, when Cyrus the Great was advancing on Babylon and the ancient world was shifting its axis. Tens of times hotter and far more luminous than the Sun, this youthful furnace will spend its fuel in a cosmological breath, leaving behind only an echo of ionised hydrogen.
