Variable starIts story
In the burning heart of Scorpius pulses a rare O-type blue star more than 1,359 light-years away. Its light departed around the year 666, deep in the early Middle Ages, as the Umayyad caliphate consolidated its borders. Tens of thousands of times more luminous than the Sun and still varying in brightness, it is an extreme furnace whose life will be short but dazzling.
