What is 16 Scorpii
16 Scorpii is a white A-type star 252 light-years away in Scorpius, one of the most theatrical constellations of the southern summer sky and the northern low summer. Its light is framed by a region peopled by the red heart of Antares and a swarm of clusters. It glows discreetly, yet belongs to one of the celestial geographies most intensely visited by human eyes.

16 Scorpii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
