Iota² Normae is a hot blue B-type star in the small Square, a southern constellation set by Lacaille beside the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way. Its light takes 280 years to cross the space between us. With Iota¹ Normae it forms an optical pair visible in a region densely populated by open clusters, OB associations and the rich Milky Way road that pours toward the galactic heart.
Where it is and when to see it
Iota 2 Norma lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June, when it culminates around midnight.

- From Sydney it never sets and culminates about 66° up.
It can be seen from anywhere south of 32° N.
It ranks no. 15 in brightness among the 26 stars of Norma in our catalogue. To find it, start from Gamma 2 Norma, the brightest: it lies about 8° away (a fist at arm's length covers about 10°).
