Iota² Normae is a hot blue B-type star in the small Square, a southern constellation set by Lacaille beside the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way. Its light takes 280 years to cross the space between us. With Iota¹ Normae it forms an optical pair visible in a region densely populated by open clusters, OB associations and the rich Milky Way road that pours toward the galactic heart.
Where it is and when to see it
Iota 2 Norma lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
