Its story
The Northern Crown, that half-circle of gems in the region of Boötes, guards a white A-type star 655 light-years away. Its light departed around 1371, in the thick of the Hundred Years’ War between France and England. The sharpness of its 9,000-degree surface arrives today as a spark of magnitude 5.79: a luminous memory of the late Middle Ages suspended in the diadem.
