What is 2 Lupi
2 Lupi is a mature orange giant in the southern Wolf, a star that has already spent the hydrogen in its core and swelled many times the Sun's size. It shines with a warm tone, like aged amber, some three hundred light-years away. When this light began its journey, late Renaissance Europe was still lit by torch and candle, and no telescope worth the name had yet been imagined.
Where it is and when to see it
2 Lupi lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
