Variable starIts story
In Serpens, the constellation that glides cleaved in two by the healer Ophiuchus, beats a red M-type variable at 723 light-years. Its coppery light set out around the year 1300, deep in the Middle Ages, when Dante was writing the «Comedy» and guilds were flourishing in European cities. Cooler than the Sun and noticeably broader, its brightness breathes very slowly, almost imperceptibly.
