What is HIP 72582

In Boötes, the guardian of the Plough, glows an orange K-type giant 210 light-years away. Its golden light set out when Napoleon, freshly defeated at Waterloo, was carried into exile on Saint Helena. Cooler than the Sun but far larger, it long ago swelled into a calm, lukewarm flame that accompanies the celestial herdsman on his slow turn around the pole.

HIP 72582 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
