What is HIP 71111
Within the tail of Draco the northern dragon glows an orange K-type star 620 light years away. Its light set out when Joan of Arc arrived at Chinon to recognize the dauphin and the course of the Hundred Years' War shifted. Cooler than the Sun yet already in its expansive maturity, it pours out a golden glow reminiscent of old amber.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 71111 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
