What is HIP 7016
Within the quiet constellation of the Sculptor glows a K-type orange giant 450 light-years away. Its light set out around 1576, when the Dane Tycho Brahe was building Uraniborg, the observatory that reshaped modern astronomy. Cooler than the Sun yet considerably larger, it offers its amber tone to a tranquil region of the sky, far from the Zodiac and the great mythological figures.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 7016 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
