Cool red starIts story
In Sculptor, that quiet constellation of the southern sky, beats a very cool red star of type M. Its light crossed 976 years: it set off around 1049, as Bruno of Egisheim was elected pope under the name Leo IX and launched the Gregorian reform. A reddish ember, like a candle behind soiled glass, in a region where one sees more distant galaxies than nearby stars.
