What is HIP 69965
Barely 58.8 light years separate the observer from this yellowish-white class F star in Hydra. Its light left around 1967, the Summer of Love in San Francisco and the year of the first human heart transplant in Cape Town. A star slightly hotter than the Sun, one of the few almost touchable in cosmic terms, an intimate neighbourhood of the solar district.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 69965 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
