What is HIP 67545

Within the vast Virgo, 505 light-years away, glows an orange K-type star whose coppery light set out when, around 1521, Magellan and Elcano were completing the first voyage around the world and returning the image of a spherical Earth to the common imagination. Cooler and larger than the Sun, its surface hovers near 4,500 degrees and its glow recalls a small bonfire dying slowly in the middle of a field.

HIP 67545 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
