Its story
83 Virginis burns about 824 light-years away, a yellow G-type sun far more distant and far brighter than our own. It belongs to that family of stars that share the Sun's colour but outstrip it in size, heat and luminosity. The light crossing the telescope glass tonight set out around the twelfth century —deep in the medieval crusades—, travelling eight hundred years to surface among the stars of northern spring.
