2 Boötis is a yellow G-type star about 336 light-years away, set at the southern tip of the Herdsman near the border with Virgo. It occupies a spectral region close to the Sun's but is noticeably larger and brighter, with the build of a star that has begun to swell. It marks the southern edge of the celestial shepherd, where the constellation's outline thins into scattered stars.
