What is 63 Virginis
63 Virginis is an orange K-type star recorded in the Hipparcos and Bright Star catalogues, with an apparent magnitude of 5.36 that leaves it at the very edge of naked-eye perception. It shines within the celestial Virgin at 306 light-years, far from the major landmarks of the Virgo Cluster. Its yellowish light has been travelling since the years when Versailles was being built for Louis XIV.
Where it is and when to see it
63 Virginis lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
