What is HIP 65198
In the robe of the Virgin shines a white star 220 light-years away, suspended between distant clusters of galaxies. Its light set out around 1805, when Trafalgar was deciding the maritime fate of the Atlantic. A-type stars are cool jewels compared to their blue cousins: they burn at some ten thousand degrees and display a hydrogen spectrum almost out of a textbook.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 65198 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
