39 Comae Berenices is an F-type binary star 162 light-years away, detected as both an X-ray and infrared source. It lives in Coma Berenices, the hair of the Egyptian queen that gave the constellation its name, a region rich in clusters and distant galaxies. Its light departed in the 1860s, in the midst of the Victorian scientific revolution.
