Its story

38 Comae Berenices is an orange K-type star 407 light-years away, in a region of the sky thinly populated with bright stars but rich in distant galaxies: Coma Berenices looks straight toward the north galactic pole, well clear of the dust of our Milky Way's disk. Telescopes pointed there reach into the deep universe almost unobstructed. Its warm light quietly marks that window into the extragalactic distance.
