What is HIP 61420

In Berenice's hair, the legendary tress offered to the gods, shines an orange giant some 638 light-years away. Its light set out around 1387, when Chaucer was beginning the Canterbury Tales and English was asserting itself as a literary language. An aged star, cool and vast, its coppery colour recalls the glow of a sealed kiln deep in the night.

HIP 61420 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
