Mu
Variable starIts story
Mu Muscae is a red K4 giant that flickers with the subtlety of irregular variables: its brightness drifts barely between magnitudes 4.71 and 4.76, with no clear period. It is more likely on the red giant branch than the asymptotic one, and shows no signs yet of mass loss. At 432 light-years, it shines quietly over the small southern constellation of the Fly.
