Star profile
HIP 52468
Variable starWhat is HIP 52468
It pulses with an uneven beat in Carina, keel of the southern sky. A variable orange star 1,140 light-years away —the glow we see now departed when Pope Urban II was calling the First Crusade at Clermont in 1095. K giants like this one do not fade; they breathe, swelling and contracting in cycles that can stretch over months.
