Variable star

Its story

In Carina, a fragment of the ancient celestial ship Argo, lives this hot blue B-type variable. Its light set out around the year 752, when Charlemagne was still a child and the Umayyad caliphate had just fallen to the Abbasids. Variable B-type stars are huge, volatile bodies capable of measurably changing their brightness; to observe them is to glimpse the violent youth of the galaxy.
