What is 22 Leonis
22 Leonis is a white A-type star shining at 135 light-years inside the lion's outline, one of the few constellations that visibly recalls the animal it portrays. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its sharp spectrum places it in full stellar youth. Every November the Leonid meteor shower radiates from a nearby zone, sweeping across a sector populated by giants and subgiants.
Where it is and when to see it
22 Leonis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
